Sting

Sting is a British singer born on 2 October 1951 in the Newcastle area. He was raised in a modest family and regularly accompanied his father, a milkman, on his morning rounds, but he longed for a different life. His mother, a pianist in her spare time, passed on her love of music and encouraged him in this direction. A guitar enthusiast, he also took up the piano and spent more time in concert halls than in classrooms. At the age of 18, he took on a series of odd jobs and played in jazz clubs with his band, the Phoenix Jazzmen. He became a teacher but his passion for music prevailed and he left his job to devote himself entirely to music. In 1976, while performing with the Last Exit, he was spotted by drummer Stewart Copeland, a member of Curved Air, who was looking for a bass player for his next band. This led to the formation of the punk trio 'The Police', also featuring French guitarist Henry Padovani. But after a chaotic start, Henry Padovani was replaced by guitar genius Andy Summers and success was immediate. Their first hit 'Roxanne' topped the charts on its release in 1978 and launched their international career. The songs 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Walking on the Moon' further cemented their reputation. But Sting yearned for more artistic freedom and left the band in 1985 to embark on a solo career. His first album, "The Dream of the Blue Turtles", was warmly received, as was his second, "Nothing Like the Sun", which included the hit "Fragile". From then on, Sting released a series of albums with varying degrees of critical success, but his audience was always there and his tours were triumphant. In 2007, the group "The Police" reformed for a world tour to the delight of their fans. An artist with a big heart, Sting is a committed character and very involved in humanitarian causes. In 2018, he released his 13th album with reggae sounds, "44/876", in collaboration with the Jamaican singer Shaggy.
