Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast is a Disney animated film released in 1991. It became a classic of its kind due to its worldwide success. As soon as it was released, it shattered box-office records and received rave reviews. It was so successful that it was the first Disney film to win three Golden Globes, two Grammy Awards and two Oscars. It is also the first animated film to be turned into a musical. Who doesn't know the story of the seemingly impossible love affair between a prince transformed into a beast and a beautiful princess held captive in his castle? A princess who manages to love the beast beyond all appearances and manages to touch his heart. The success of Beauty and the Beast would certainly not be what it is without an exceptional soundtrack and beautiful interpretations by Angela Lansbury, Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson and many others. "Beauty and the Beast" (or Tale As Old As Time, as it also known) won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1992 and is the work of American composer Alan Menken, who is responsible for other Disney hits such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
