Erroll Garner is an American jazz composer and pianist. Known as the 40-finger pianist, he impressed with his dexterity and style. It is often said that you really have to be a pianist to understand how good he was, and how what he was doing was simply impossible. It was the song 'Misty', composed in 1954, that made him famous. It remains his biggest hit. His album 'Concert by the Sea' is still one of the best-selling jazz albums in the world. A self-taught jazzman, Erroll Garner had an atypical career. He could neither read nor write music, but his keen ear and impressive musical memory were enough to make him a genius pianist.
