Joe Hisaishi

Joe Hisaishi is a Japanese pianist and composer famous for his numerous film scores. He is a real star in his country. For nearly 40 years, he has collaborated with the greatest Japanese filmmakers such as Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano, for whom he composed the music for the films "My Neighbour Totoro", "Chihiro's Journey", "The Moving Castle" and "Kikujiro's Summer". His career started in 1974. At the time, he composed cartoon theme songs and music for commercials. In the 1980s, he began collaborating with Hayao Miyazaki, for whom he composed his first big hit for the film "The Castle in the Sky" in 1986. In the early 2000s, he produced the music for the French film "Le Petit Poucet". Since then, he has worked regularly for European and American films. It is also rumoured that Joe Hisaishi is the composer of the soundtrack of the famous "Grave of the Fireflies". In addition to his talents as a film composer, Joe Hisaishi is also the author of several symphonic albums and other compositions for piano.
