The Platters

The Platters is an American vocal group formed in 1953 in Los Angeles. The group quickly became successful thanks to its elegant vocal harmonies, blending rhythm and blues, doo-wop and pop. Their meeting with producer Buck Ram marked the beginning of an international career.

Their breakthrough came in 1955 with “Only You”, followed by classics such as “The Great Pretender”, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “Twilight Time”. Led by the remarkable voice of Tony Williams, The Platters became one of the most iconic groups of the 1950s and had a lasting influence on popular music.
